Contact lenses and Covid-19. Can I keep using lenses?
Many of you will have asked yourselves if it is safe to use contact lenses during this global pandemic of Coronavirus and the answer is YES. It is absolutely safe provided that we use the appropriate hygiene measures just like we have done in our daily hygiene routine.
We already know that for now the best way to combat the virus is through hygiene, especially with frequent hand washing for at least 20 seconds and avoiding touching our face constantly, especially our eyes and mouth.
The use of contact lenses continues to be safe and for some people it is the best option to correct their sight problem and to do their job or activities that they carry out on a daily basis.
Here is some advice for those of you that would like to keep using contact lenses.
CORONAVIRUS AND LENSES
1. The place where you put your lenses in must be clean and disinfected.
2. Before proceeding to put in your contact lenses, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with antibacterial soap.
3. Daily, monthly or fortnightly lenses? You can keep using your usual lenses. We recommend switching to daily disposal lenses since you would be saving some steps when it comes to their disinfection and hygiene. But if you wish to keep using monthly lenses you just need to pay greater attention to the hygiene measures and clean the lenses on both sides for 30 seconds with their liquid.
4. Avoid handling the lense too much before putting it in making sure that they are in the correct position. That way you will avoid increased contact with your eyes.
5. Clean your lenses case with the special liquid and never never share your lenses or lenses case.
6. If you use drops in your eyes you can keep using them as normal maintaining the product applicator at a safe distance to avoid it coming into contact with your eyes.
