How to Use: 1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the Medela Hand Expression Funnel. 2. Ensure the funnel and any attached Medela breast milk bottle or storage container are clean and sterilized according to the manufacturer's instructions. 3. Position the funnel over your breast, ensuring a comfortable and secure seal. The wide opening should encompass most of the areola. 4. Gently compress your breast behind the areola, rhythmically mimicking your baby's sucking pattern. Avoid squeezing the nipple directly. 5. Maintain a consistent rhythm and pressure, allowing the milk to flow naturally into the funnel and the attached container. 6. Once the milk flow slows, reposition the funnel slightly or switch breasts. 7. After expressing, detach the funnel from the bottle or storage container. 8. Store expressed breast milk according to recommended guidelines, either feeding immediately or refrigerating/freezing for later use.
Recommended Frequency: The frequency of hand expression depends on individual needs and breastfeeding goals. For establishing milk supply or relieving engorgement, express frequently, approximately 8-12 times per 24-hour period. Once a stable milk supply is established, adjust the frequency based on your baby's feeding patterns and your personal comfort level. Consult with a lactation consultant or healthcare professional for personalized guidance.
Additional Tips: 1. Apply a warm compress to your breasts before expressing to stimulate milk flow. 2. Gently massage your breasts before and during expression to encourage let-down. 3.
