Born in 1952 in France, Jean Paul Gaultier has managed to make a name for himself in fashion without any formal training . Sending sketches to various couture stylists Gaultier managed to get in the door at Pierre Cardin as an assistant in 1970. Setting up his own label in 1976, Gaultier’s edgier side came to light taking his inspiration more from the London street scene than Parisian couture.
Technically brilliant, Gaultier used his talent to parody the fashion establishment thereby redefining many fashion conventions. In the 1980s he recreated underwear as outerwear with the corset look and attempted to make skirts mainstream for men. His creations for those in the entertainment business were well received making him shine even brighter in popular culture. Interestingly enough his couture collections remained very formal though they were not without touches of his street influence.
Gaultier’s first women’s perfume, Classique, was introduced in 1993. It was meant to be reminiscent of his childhood yet a representation of his current life—fairylike and distant but still modern couture.

Olfactory Notes
Ingredients
The fragrance construction utilizes a traditional three-tiered pyramid structure. Top notes provide an initial burst of freshness, while heart notes develop the core character. Base notes offer lasting depth and longevity, anchoring the scent on the skin.
This classic approach to fragrance development ensures a balanced and evolving scent experience.
Key ingredients include mint, lavender, vanilla, and tonka bean. These ingredients interact to create the signature Le Male aroma. While the specific concentrations remain proprietary, the interplay of these notes contributes to the fragrance's overall character, blending freshness, warmth, and sensuality. Research and development focused on maintaining the iconic scent profile while optimizing its performance in this format.
While specific scientific studies on this particular collector's edition are not publicly available, the general principles of fragrance formulation and ingredient interaction are well-established in cosmetic science. The application protocol is straightforward: spray onto pulse points for optimal diffusion and longevity. Avoid contact with eyes.

Top Note: The initial burst of freshness comes from the invigorating mint, providing a cool and aromatic opening. This is complemented by the traditional barbershop aroma of lavender, adding a touch of clean, floral sweetness.
Heart Note: As the top notes fade, the heart reveals the sensual warmth of cinnamon (implied by the "oriental" description) adding a spicy depth. This is further enhanced by the powdery, sweet facets of orange blossom (also implied, common in fougère fragrances), creating a captivating and seductive aura.
Base Note: The enduring base of vanilla provides a creamy, comforting sweetness that lingers on the skin. This is intertwined with the warm, nutty, and slightly powdery aroma of tonka bean, adding depth and longevity to the fragrance. Sandalwood (common in fougère bases) likely contributes a smooth, woody undertone, anchoring the scent and enhancing its persistence.
